Major Audrey Rideout was commissioned on July 8th, 1972. Her NL appointments consisted of Botwood, Cottles Island, Englee, Roddickton, Mundy Pond and Blaketown. She transferred to the East Africa Territory in 1976 where she was headmistress for a girls school. Major Audrey came back to NL in 1984 where she took up duties at the Training College, St. John's until 1988. She went back to Zimbabwe Territory where she became the Training Officer and then Principal of Training College. In 1998 she was transferred to Zambia and Malawi Territory as Training Officer and then Principal. Major Audrey remained there until her return to NL in 2004. After retiring, she spent three more years travelling back and forth to Change Islands ministering to the people there.
Major Audrey loved her family and friends back home but there was a strong love that kept pulling her back to Africa. She found such a fulfillment in working with the people there and experiencing the miracles of God's provision on a regular basis.
She was well loved and respected by the people of Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. Her patience and sense of humour were enjoyed by those she met. Only eternity will reveal the number of lives that have been influenced as a result of her years of ministry in Africa.
Cheryl Davis, a very good friend of Audrey, says - her door was always open and she knew she could always go there for some good home cooking, some good laughs and lots of Scrabble games which Audrey won most of the time!
