Obituary of Woodrow Philpott
October 22, 1933 - October 12, 2025
Captain Woodrow James Philpott, just 10 days shy of 92 years old, passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at the Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
Woodrow is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Pauline Philpott, parents James & Blossom Philpott, infant son Donald, granddaughter Lenora, siblings, Ralph (Annie), Lloyd (Pauline), Ron (Margorie), Frank (Hellen), Harry (Dorothy), Geraldine (Gordon), Ruth (Simon), Marie (Mike) and brother-in-law Gilbert.
Woodrow was a proud and dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by his children; Christine (Fred), Marie (Ted), Grant (Rosena), Marilyn (Kevin), Brenda (Craig), Jim (Heather), and Mike (Leona); his 15 grandchildren; and his 25 great-grandchildren. Also grieving with fond and lasting memories are his sister, Mae, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Woodrow had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met, always ready with sound advice and known for his wisdom and encouragement. He was deeply respected by those who knew him and was a pillar of his community in Cottlesville, NL.
His career ventures over the years included logging, fishing, a ship’s captain and he was also the owner and operator of several vessels. He enjoyed and took part in both local and provincial politics, always eager to contribute to his community.
A man of unwavering faith, Woodrow loved the Lord and never hesitated to share his beliefs with others. His greatest joy was his family and he often spoke of them with pride and affection.
Public visitation will take place at the Salem Pentecostal Church, Cottlesville, NL. On Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from church on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Russell Porter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, any monetary donations will be donated in Woodrow’s honor to the Lionel Kelland Hospice, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
Woodrow’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre (Dr. Diamond) in Twillingate, James Paton Memorial Health Centre in Gander, Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre (Dr. Pickett) in Grand Falls-Windsor, and the Lionel Kelland Hospice (Dr. Campbell) in Grand Falls-Windsor for their exceptional care and compassion throughout his stays.
