It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eric Penney announce his passing at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL on Sunday, March 14, 2021, aged 82.
Eric's loving heart, infectious kindness and laugh was evident to all who crossed his path. These traits were never more evident than when he was welcoming people into his beloved home in Moreton's Harbour. All visitors were given a true "Penney" welcome, and it wasn't long before they were part of his ever-growing family. Treated to his infamous fish cakes, rhubarb relish, and a tease that he had pickled seal flipper for the more adventurous. Eric's love of cooking and food was evident to all. If you were lucky enough to stay overnight you would see his love for the ocean as he invited you out onto his boat, you would witness his love for art as he sat you in front of a set of beach rocks to paint, and you would hear his love for history as he regaled you with stories from across the world. His life could therefore be summed up in one simple word: love. And as he would say at the end of each phone call, "chat soon."
Eric leaves to mourn his wife Inez, daughters Dana Penney, Roxanne (Tom) Corbin, grandchildren Thomas Corbin, Sydney Burton, Ericka Corbin, Mackenzie Whiteway and great-grandson A.J. Roberts, siblings Ferne (Gord) Simms, Augusta Fitzgerald, Edward Penney, and Bryce (Monica) Penney, and brother-in-law George (Jean) White, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Eric is predeceased by his parents Edward and Pearl, sisters Marie, Millie, Margaret, Olga, Mary, Roxy and brother Bill.
In keeping with Eric's wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral information will be released at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eric's memory may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.
