It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gladys Burt, age 88 years, of Summerford, NL announce her passing at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL on Thursday, February 18, 2021.
She is predeceased by her first husband George W. Pelley of 28 years, second husband Harvey Burt of 26 years, parents Joshua & Ida Jenkins, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Left with cherished memories are her children Maxine (Edward), Larry (Joyce), Jean (Almond), Josephine, Herman (Tassie), grandchildren Cedella Luff, Scott Barnes, Jason Pelley, Dwayne Pelley, Melanie Handcock, Alisha Hodder, Travis Pelley a number of great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Due to the Covid-19 revised restrictions there will be a private family viewing followed by a graveside service.
Donations in Gladys' memory may be given to the Pentecostal Cemetery Fund, Summerford, NL.
Gladys was born August 24, 1932. She was the youngest child of Joshua & Ida Jenkins. In 1951 Gladys married George Pelley and together they raised 3 girls and 2 boys and made Summerford their home. On February 18, 2021 Gladys passed from this life into the arms of her Saviour. She dearly loved taking her children and going to church even when snow was knee high. In the 60's George & Gladys ran a grocery store that was attached to the family home later she worked at home care and drying squids. In 2008 she moved in an apartment at Evergreen Manor. Gladys & George was the first couple married in the Pentecostal Church in Summerford by Pastor Selby Callahan.
The family would like to thank the outstanding homecare workers, Sandra Barker and Heather Canning. Gladys loved them dearly, waiting patiently for them to arrive every morning.
