Gloria Boyd Obituary

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that the family of the late Gloria Boyd announces her passing at her home in Tizzard’s Harbour, surrounded by family and friends on June 05 2025 at the age of 64.

Gloria was born at Mary’s Harbour on August 17, 1960 and grew up with her family in St. Lewis (Fox Harbour), Labrador. Gloria was predeceased by her father James Mangrove, mother, Effie (Mangrove) Bridger, step-father, John Bridger, sister Nellie Curl, brothers, Carl Mangrove and Kirby Brown, brothers-in-law, Wesley Curl and Lorne Roach.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Clyde; her daughter Chantelle Saulter (Travis);  her son Scott Saulter (Veronica); Jerry Saulter (father of her children);  step-son, Johnny (Vickie); sisters, Lorraine Folkes (Cyril); Marie Byrnes (Bruce); Gladys Roach (Todd); brothers, Roy Mangrove (Phyllis); Cliff Mangrove (Dianne); Rex Mangrove (Gina), precious grandchildren Blake, Taya, and Cameron Poole; sisters-in-law, Karen Mangrove and Linda Brown, aunts Margaret and Emma as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Among her places of work were: Forteau fish plant, Canada Post, Labrador Air, and student Assistant at Virginia Park, St. John’s.  Gloria was a true Labradorian, enjoying all that the land, sea, and the social life had to offer. A devoted and hard-working mother to Scott and Chantelle and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren. She was very much an athletic, participating in broomball, hockey and even the Labrador Winter games. She opened the door to anyone who came to her home, offering a meal and a bed to anyone who needed either. Nothing was too big or too small to ask of her. She was playful, fierce, strong, kind, daring, matter-of-fact, a fantastic homemaker, cook and baker. She was a ‘salty breath of fresh air’ to all, sassy and humorous to the end.

Gloria enjoyed fishing, camping, travelling to see family and friends, and seeking the sun in warmer climes from time to time. She loved her time away from her home in St. John’s to their home in Tizzard’s Harbour, which she did until her need for frequent dialysis changed and ended the things she loved to do.

Her family would like to express gratitude to the doctors and nurses for the care she received at the Dialysis Units in Mount Pearl and the Health Care Centre in Gander. The same gratitude goes to the workers at the Nightingale Manor and the Long-Term Care Facility in Gander.

According to Gloria’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
