Gordon Barnes

It is with heavy hearts the family of the late Gordon Barnes, age 74 years, of Hillgrade, NL announce his peaceful passing surrounded by his loving wife and family at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL on Sunday, November 1, 2020.

He is predeceased by his parents John & Adalaide Barnes of Norris Point, NL and brother Clarence of Sydney, NS.

Left with fond and loving memories are his wife of 51 years Thelma, children Barbara (Keith), Faron, precious grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Josh, Ty and Drew, brothers Cecil (Mary), Larry (Christina), sister Kay (Don), sisters-in-law Shirley and Bernice along with a large number of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Gordon was a very active member of the community and served on many municipal & provincial committees. He was a very dedicated worker and worked at various careers during his lifetime. He spent his last several working years at what he loved best, working at Sansome’s Lobster Pool where he met people from all over the world leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Gordon took pride in serving the New World Island East Central United Church in many capacities including the youth group, lay reader and choir to name a few.

The family sends their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL and Lakeside Home, Gander, NL. Your care and devotion will never be forgotten.

Resting at New World Island Funeral Home, Summerford. Public visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 from 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. Funeral service for invited guests will take place from the New World Island East Central United Church, Newville on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.

Donations in Gordon’s memory may be given to the New World Island East Central United Church, Newville or a charity of one's choice.
