As a young man, dad left home and ventured out to the unknown world to work in Labrador City and then the Lake Boats.  For two years he saved his money to proudly return home to Change Islands to buy a large, beautiful home that he divided into two connecting homes (four fireplaces and a chimney built with a full schooner load of bricks-photographed and painted by many) for his parents/siblings; and his future family to come.  Family was and continued to be the center of his soul.

The Saltwater Seas!  If there was a Heaven on Earth, it was the ocean!  An inshore fisherman to his core.  Like all fellow fisherman, when the fish hit, Dad and brother Edward were in their glee.  There was no time to sleep.  The summers were filled with long busy days; late to early mornings in the stage, fishing traps, salmon nets, lobster pots, caplin, squid, drying salt fish...and lots, lots of laughs!

They spent their winters in the store building fishing boats, repairing the 35 ft motorboat they built, mending nets, knitting lobster traps...more and more the chatter!

The biggest occasion of the year for the two brothers and wives- the glory days of Moose hunting.   We won’t know if they would be gone for days or weeks.  I think they use to fid when they call home saying they can’t come yet, they haven't yet seen a moose... The fun they would have... and stories they shared when they came back home.

The smell of birch and spruce wood, and the sound of the chainsaw! dad loved spending countless days cutting wood, bringing it out in winter by horse or skidoo, cutting it and piling it up...and the dreadful task we had of throwing it down a metal chute through a 3X2 window to be stored in the basement–painfully, every chunk of wood had to fit perfectly in line and by size lol

Anyone who knew dad, he was meticulous about everything.... especially his “well”...oh, that ‘well”- that another Harv story

Bakeapples, blueberries, partridgeberries...he loved berry picking!  From going as a family to some island by boat on a Sunday-to going for hours himself.   He would be there for hours with his bucket and bottle of water.

From the endless chats every night on the phone to whoever would answer, to talk about the day, the weather, the fish, the birds etc-to the Saturday nights when the house would be full of his cousins or random young fellas coming over from Deep Bay and Fogo for “a night”.  Harv Snow was a friend to all.  His door was always open, and they always had a place to sleep.

He was so entertaining to watch.  He would sit and talk to everyone...from talking the ear off the fellas who work at Canadian Tire or when he sat on the bench in the mall waiting for mom.  Harv was ready for a chat!

No Christmas was complete without him drilling holes in one tree, fitting in branches from another tree in order to create that ONE perfectly balanced tree- to his famous homebrew-just in time for the Mummers.

Seal hunting in the winter, Tur hunting in the fall, working on his truck and doing stuff outside the house.   A proud member of the Fisherman's and Orangeman’s Lodge, a passionate member of our community..dad was ALWAYS busy...he was ALWAYS happy!

So many great memories….

A husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, a friend to all!  Harv Snow was a blessing in our lives.  Without him knowing, he taught us the greatest life lessons.  A man of integrity, fun loving, kindhearted, sweet, strong, hardworking, patient, honest, respectful, smart, fun loving again, emotionally connected, stubborn, a loving husband and a gentleman.

Always with a smile..and that witty grin, always full of fun, always with a story, always ready for a yarn!

Our world was a better place because of you.  You will continue to be our bright and shiny guiding light.  You will be missed beyond measure!

We love you xxoo
