it is with great sadness that the family of the late Hubert Burt, age 95 years of Carter's Cove, NL announce his passing at the Notre Dame Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL on Monday, June 1, 2020.
He predeceased by his parents Frederick & Gertrude, wife Daisy, sons Ted & Bruce, baby boy Burt, siblings Evelyn (Ralph), Elsie (Frank), Lillian and Elmo.
Hubert was born in Carter's Cove, NL where he built his own house. In 1943 he married Daisy Curtis and together they raised 13 children: Malcolm (Betty), Juanita (Don) Gidge, Bessie (Gerald) Boyde, Carson (Glennis), Loretta (Ivan) Burt, Eric (Ida), Annette (Art) Burt, Harold (Vivian), Golda (Danny) Ings, Bonnie (Eric) White, Craig (Janice), 29 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandchild, siblings Mark Burt, and Arlene (Clayton) Keats as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Resting at New World Island Funeral Home, Summerford, NL. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there will be a private family viewing followed by a graveside service on Wednesday.
He started working just before he turned 15 years of age at T. Stuckless, Bishop's Falls, NL with his dad where he used fir boughs for his mattress. Also worked with A.N.D. Company, Jim Philpott, in the 1950's he worked 7 summers with C.N.T., 4 summers were spent working on Fogo Island, NL. He was a tractor operator, log cutter and a foreman on many jobs. One of them being in Argentia laying tracks for NL railway. Hubert retired from Abitibi Price at the age of 65 years.
Still very active and outgoing where he would be seen riding his "trod" (quad) until 2 years ago when illness prevented him from do so.
