On Christmas Eve 1929, Inez was born to Thomas and Janie (Penney) Trickett in Spout Cove, Conception Bay. She lived there until she was two years old when, on the untimely death of her father, Inez and her mother moved back to live with her mother’s parents and extended family in nearby Salmon Cove. When her mother later remarried and moved to Bell Island, Inez continued to live with her family in Salmon Cove and they and the community remained a very important part of her life forever.
When she was only in her teens, Inez took the train to Lewisporte and the passenger boat on to Twillingate to start teaching school at Kettle Cove. It was there that she met Robert Gidge of Fairbanks and they were married on August 5, 1948. They lived in Fairbanks and raised their four children, while she and Rob worked in the family business.
Inez was dedicated to her church and was always willing to lend a hand. She was a Life Member of the United Church Women. She was also a caregiver for all of her life as she cared for elder family members and for Rob after he became ill and for the many years before his death. There are many ways in which Inez will be fondly remembered but especially for her love of conversation and the many stories she shared, often of times long past.
Inez passed peacefully away at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate where she had been a resident of the Long Term Care Unit for a year. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Robert.
Left with loving memories are her daughter Linda (Jerry) Wheeler, son Woodrow (Doreen), daughter Barbara, and son Blaine (Patsy); nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many special relatives in the extended Rose family and a circle of family and friends.
