Marilyn Canning Obituary

It is with absolutely shattered hearts that the family of the late Marilyn Canning (Boyd) announce her peaceful passing at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL on March 22, 2022 after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Marilyn was born on October 14, 1959 in Twillingate, NL and raised in Tizzards Harbour, NL. She met her soul mate Bruce and moved to Cottlesville, NL. Together they raised two children, and shared almost 37 wonderful years of marriage. Their marriage was one to be envious of, filled with unlimited amounts of love and laughs.

Marilyn is predeceased by her parents, Sidney & Elizabeth Boyd (nee Burt), father-in-law Willis Canning, niece Tammy Boyd-Hussain, brother-in-Law Ewen Canning, sister-in-law Marjorie Canning and nephew Elvis Canning.

Left to mourn with broken hearts are her husband, Bruce; son Robin, daughter Candy (Aaron), grandsons Cameron and Benjamin, sister Mavis (Richard) Gray, brother Larry (Yvonne) Boyd, mother-in-Law Mae Canning, sisters-in-law Queen (Stan) Pelley, Daphne (Don) Holmes, Dianne (Boyde) Collins, Georgina (Junior) Philpott; brothers-in-law Melvin Canning, Pearce (Myrtle) Canning, Whylie (Kelly) Canning, Darren (Katie) Canning as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Anyone who knew Marilyn knew that her pride and joy was her grandsons Cameron and Ben. She was the absolute best nanny and the family often joked that the boys loved her more than their mom.

Some of Marilyn's favorite things were being with her family, all things Christmas, spending time "down the Bight" and a good bag of plain rippled chips.

Marilyn's family would like to send a thank you to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic, Gander, NL as well as Dr. Dawn Armstrong.

They also cannot describe their gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Andrew Hunt and the wonderful nursing team at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, NL. They were all so fantastic, and incredibly supportive in Marilyn's final days. They showed unlimited amounts of love and compassion and it will be forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tizzard's Harbour United Church Cemetery Fund, by sending donations to nwifuneralhome@nf.aibn.com, adding Marilyn's name in the comment section.

Celebration of Life service will be held at New World Island Funeral Home on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends welcome.
