It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ethel Mary Head, age 94 years, announce her passing at North Haven Manor, Lewisporte, NL on Thursday March 23, 2023. The family would like to express gratitude to her homecare workers and the staff of North Haven Manor.

Mary was Born July 11,1928 to Hilda and George Brown of Joe Batts Arm, Fogo Island. She was the eldest of seven children. She married George E. Head of Boyd's Cove, NL on Feb 18, 1946.

Predeceased by her parents and husband, her brother Lorne Brown, brother in law Horace Baldwin, sister in law and husband Lucy and Issac LeDrew, sister in law and husband Marie and Harold Burry, brother in law and wife Levi and Henrietta Head, Sister in laws Leah and Blanche Head and brother in law Peter Head, Brother in Law Fred Thoms, Son in law Cluny Sheppard.

Leaving to mourn six daughters: Golda Sheppard, Dorothy Dove (Boyce), Pheobe Farr (Victor), Eileen Mercer (Bruce), Sharon Rogers (Dennis), Marie Oake (Fred) and 15 Grandchildren: Tina Belbin (Scott), Jennifer Welsh (Byron), Lorna Sargent (Chris), Ann Marie Hodder (Kirk), Andy Coish (Leslie), Michael Coish (Jennifer), Vicki Farr, Wendy Ings (Jody), Peter Farr ( Natasha), David Mercer (Brenda), Stephen Mercer (Stacey), Adam Rogers (Ashley), Sarah Oake (Justin), Andrew Oake (Rebecca), Alex Dove (Michelle) and 28 great grandchildren and 1 Great great Grandchild, 5 Siblings Laura Freake (Welby), Fern Snow (Alex), Trudy , Roy Brown (Barbra), Violet Churchill (Eric). Sister in law, Shirley Thoms.

Mary came to live in Boyd’s Cove at 17 years old and lived there all her years. Mary was a loving wife and mother who loved gardening, quilting, berry picking, and reading. For most of her life, she was a very active member of the Anglican Church Women’s group and St. George’s Anglican Church where she was organist for 23 years. Some of her happiest moments were spent with family around the kitchen table.

Public visitation will take place from New World Island Funeral Home, Saturday, March 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

The funeral service will take place from St. George’s Anglican Church Boyd’s Cove, NL on Sunday March 26 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow from St. George’s Anglican Church Cemetery.

As expression of sympathy donations can be made to St. George’s Anglican Church. Flowers are gratefully accepted.
