Rex passed peacefully away in the presence of family and the Lord at Northside Hospital in Florida.

He was a proud and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

As well as a large circle of extended family, friends and his Cottles Island Lumber Company family which was precious to his heart.

Predeceased by parents Ralph and Annie Philpott; parents-in-law Harold & Eunice Jesso; brothers Alonzo, Calvin Philpott; sisters Shirley Fancey, Beverly Rideout; brother-in-law Overton Rideout and best friend Graham Flight.

Rex was always so full of life, a hard worker, leader, mentor, friend and a pillar to his community & surrounding areas.

His first love was his family, always wanted to keep everyone together and at home. He worked entire life to make that happen. He dedicated 56 years at Cottles Island Lumber Company LTD. where he made many friends and had many adventures. He always had a vision, and a passion in everything he done. A legend in the forestry industry, built a satellite city in Chile, shipped houses to Japan, a partner at Humber Valley Resort. Just to name a few ventures. In the past year he wanted to build homes again. Always had a passion for new construction, always looking for the next adventure.

In younger years he fished with his dad, brothers and friends, but soon realized that he was much happier making a living on land. Strangers quickly became friends, always giving sound advise and leaving you with a scripture. Had a passion for the water and spent many weekends with friends & family, putting the “pot on” while travelling to Exploit’s. Being sure to try for a cod on the way back. In later years he didn’t spend as much time on the bay, but always had a boat tied to the wharf where he would spend many hours hanging out. Welcoming a conversation with whoever dropped by.

Rex was a humble man. He loved his family more than anything in this world. He was so proud to have worked with his daughter Lorie for 30 plus years, later with his grandson Robin. He was always the biggest cheerleader in the family, making a lot of the small and big moments. He will be sadly missed forever. He was our anchor & compass. Always saying “chart the course & stay the course.”

Epesians 4:2: Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
