Verna Boyde Obituary

Verna Maude Boyde was born on September 7, 1935, as the first born child of Garland and Ruby Boyde of Summerford. She began work at an early age, working at local stores and in the early 1970’s she moved to St. John’s to work as the office manager of the Salvation Army Bookstore. Verna enjoyed travelling with her friends on cruises to places such as Barbados, Austria, Italy, the Virgin Islands and Switzerland. She retired and moved home to Summerford in 2002. She had many hobbies such as gardening, making ceramics, quilting, rabbit catching, going on skidoo, berry picking camping, fishing and having picnics. Through all her years she was ever so faithful to her beloved Salvation Army Church and was so proud to wear her Salvation Army uniform.

Verna is predeceased by parents, Garland & Ruby, brother Glenn (Nov. 27/24) and baby sister Joyce, brothers-in-law Alvin Durnford, Calvert Rideout, Edwin Boyde, Ronald Rideout and niece Rosalie Seymour.

Verna leaves to mourn sisters Audrey, Evelyn, Marguerite, Maxine (Eric) and Marilyn (Weldon), brothers Oliver (Betty), Alvin (Flo) and sister-in-law Judy Boyde. Also left to mourn nieces Kim (Darren), Monnie (Franklin), Debbie (Dick), Christine (Ivan), Loriann (Austin), Arlene (Melodie), Treena (Christopher), Elizabeth (Morris) and Brandi (Brian); nephews Ross (Bev), Elvis (Wavey), Hector (Karen), Steven (Roxanne), Richard (Crystal), Conrad, Christopher (Melanie), Grant (Amanda), Cliff (Amanda) and Brent. She also leaves to mourn many great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and friends.

The Boyde family would like to take this opportunity to express deep appreciation and thanks to those who showed genuine care to Verna during her stay at Kingsway Retirement Home, Notre Dame Bay Memorial Centre Long Term Care and all others who helped the family in any way during this difficult time.

Resting at the New World Island West Corps (S.A.), Summerford where visitation will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The service will take place from the church on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment at the United Church Cemetery, Summerford.

Donations in Verna’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army Christmas Food Hamper Drive.
